LA ALCAZABA
The Alcazaba with the cathedral, the main monument of Almería , and one of the biggest in Spain with islamic origin.The monumental ensemble dates from 995 A.D., It is located on a hill with wonderful sightseeings and it is divided into three enclosures: two of arabic origin and a christian castle. You get into the alcazaba by Street Almanzor.After a stone pavement rise in zig zag ,and after an acces control,you arrive at the Justice Door,placed in an strategic bend, by which you come in to the first enclosure.
THE CATHEDRAL
The Cathedral of Almería (Cathedral of the Encarnation) can be dated to the 16th Century and it resembles a castle more than a church. In fact, it was built taking into account the defense of the town, it was thought as a building from which defend or a Hack the threats of both the pirates who arrived in the city by the coast and the mourish raid from the mountains. Almena towers and counters were sult where they placed the cannonry pointing at the sea or at the mountains. The original design of the Cathedral is late gothic but after the time and with the numerous reforms, it has acquiring Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements. The original design seems to be form Diego de Siloé.
THE ENGLISH CABLE
The English cable, the popular name, which has been called an old mineral loading is one of the most staring spaces in Almería. It is formed by a pier and a viaduct through which the mineral was transported from the railway station to the port. The original name of the loading dock is "El Alquife" and was inaugurated by the King Alfonso XIII in 1904. This is a clear example of the iron architecture, with deep roots in the Eiffel guidelines was owned by The Alquife mines and Railway Company Limited. It's located on the Almadrabillas beach.
Almería and The Cinema
Almería has been known for being the setting for thousands of movies, advertisements and TV films which came and follow coming searching the climatic conditions, te landscapes which are difficult to find in any other place in the world. The better known films are "The Westerns" with a desertic and wild setting, such as the Tabernas desert. From Sergio Leone to Steven Spielberg have filmed in this land. Recently The House of the Cinema of Almería has just been inaugurated, it is a museum placed in the town which highlights the role of Almería and its province the international film industry as natural film studio of movies, films, ads and musical videos.
Almería and its beaches. The Natural Park of Cabo de Gata
The park is 30 kms far from the town. It's the first maritim - terrestrial park in Andalucía, Spain. It's a park of volcanic origin and it is the maritim-terrestrial protected space with the most area and ecologic relevance in the Western European Mediterranean sea. It's one of the most beautiful and most ecologic of the Western Mediterranean coastline; it has a length of 38.000 has plus a marine band of a mile of width (12.000 has) "el Parque Natural Cabo de Gata" has become one of the natural jewel for the Almería, Andalucía and Spain tourism.
